The John Dowe
Collection
The John Dowe Collection consist of the family records of Montgomery's Dowe family, including scrapbooks, photographs, postcards, letters, and diaries dating back to the late 1800s. In 2008 the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) acquired the collection via a long term loan. The agreement gave the Montgomery County Archives (MCA) the authority to process the collection as well as display items and records from it. The collection was created by John J. Dowe Jr., lifelong resident of Montgomery's historic Dowe House and also a decorated Scout Master. It consists of 5 series; series I: Research files, series II: Correspondence and diaries, series III: Photographs and other images, series IV: Scrapbooks and photograph albums, and series V: Publications and ephemera. The Dowe Collection is now available for public view at MCA. For more information on how to access the collection visit the contact page.
